We’re a group of professionals across University Life who are dedicated to creating an inclusive campus community. We recognize that cultural competence is the crux of creating an inclusive campus community and our work is founded in continuing the work to end injustice across our community at Mason.
The group was born from a conversation with fellow members of the University in response to some incidents that has become a regular occurrence across campus for our colleagues of color. Part of that conversation led the division of University Life to dedicate time, energy, and funding to create more opportunities for learning about cultural competence and a website to centralize the efforts that are happening across campus.
In addition, it is our goal that our model around cultural competence become a staple and form a best practice present in all campus departments and that the spirit of cultural competence is embodied by all Mason professional working staff.
